This & That, July 20, 2022

The weather seems to be the big issue still. No major rain here, but there was a straight line storm that rolled through Paris and some nearby places. Paris was hit hardest as power lines were taken down, causing power outages for a couple days causing possible water shortages as pumps can’t fill the tanks until the power is restored.

Meanwhile, here in Magazine, we did get a little rain. You might call it a shower as my guage only had less than two-tenths of an inch in it, but it settled the dust until the afternoon heat dried it up. This week is supposed to be even hotter.

Covid numbers are climbing again, and I expect as vacationers come home and school starts, the numbers will be higher. I’m starting to wear my mask again and hand washing as we handle things in the stores.

Our sympathy to the family and friends of Don Starling due to their loss. Services were Monday afternoon at the Magazine Methodist Church. Many of us are getting to the age, it could be anytime. I, too, have lost 3 family members recently. So I’m grateful for each day I’ve been given.

In History, on July 17, 1945, following Nazi Germany’s surrender, President Harry S. Truman, Soviet leader Josef Stalin, and British Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill began meeting at Potsdam in the final Allied Summit of WWII.

The year is half over now, and I do hope the hot weather will soon be over. Please stay cool if you can. That’s all today.
